About Our Store

Renaissance Society Publications

Since the Renaissance Society was founded in 1915, publications have been a core pillar of our mission. Together with the exhibitions and public programs, they are integral to the way we support artists and create opportunities for intellectual inquiry around their works. Not simply a supplement to what happens in our gallery, these books expand the critical conversations that begin here and enter them into the art historical record.

Posters have been a beloved accompaniment to the Ren’s exhibitions program for more than 25 years. Beyond communicating essential information, they have served as a platform for long form essays, design experimentation, and individual artworks. As such, this visual archive exemplifies the Ren’s ongoing commitment to artists and their ideas.

The Renaissance Society began making editions over 30 years ago and has created works by artists such as Kara Walker, Albert Oehlen, Kerry James Marshall, Arturo Herrera, and Barbara Bloom, among others.  After a hiatus, The Renaissance Society's editions program relaunched in the fall of 2019.

All members of the Renaissance Society receive a 20% discount on publications and posters purchased online and in the gallery. Publishing Circle, Curator's Circle, Patron, and Board members also are eligible for a 10% discount on most editions. Please contact us if you need a reminder of the code to use at checkout.

The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago is registered 501(c)(3). All proceeds from sales of publications, posters, and editions support the Ren's programming and helps make our free exhibitions and events possible.
