Urth, Rivers’s first solo presentation in the United States, featured new and recent moving image works. The exhibition and a newly commissioned film of the same name take their titles from an Old Norse word suggesting the twisted threads of fate, and the films presented shared an interest in utopias—in particular the tension between a yearning for an idealized world and the impossibility of such a place.
The poster features a pen and ink drawing by the artist that was presented within the installation, and also an excerpt from philosopher Timothy Morton’s book Dark Ecology, which was an inspiration for the new film.
