For her first solo museum exhibition, Jennifer Packer presented new and recent paintings that included portraiture and funerary bouquets. Based in observation, improvisation, and memory, Packer’s canvases are intimate and contemplative, rendered in loose strokes and strong color.
The image on the poster is of Say Her Name, inspired by the social media campaign surrounding the death of activist Sandra Bland in police custody. As with her other paintings of flower arrangements, the work suggests themes of trauma and loss, a private sorrow that reverberates beyond their brief public display.
