This poster accompanied the museum debut of Chicago-based, Venezuelan-born artist Arturo Herrera. Hererra's work explores our psychological relationship to narrative through collages, photographs, sculptures, and site-specific murals. The artist employs formal editing devices that abruptly recombine the figurative and spatial elements of cartoon and animated imagery to produce enigmatic associations of a profound and playful sort. With a calculated cropping and compression meant to confound, the works in Hererra's Renaissance Society solo exhibition exposed interpretation and the desire to construct meaning as psychologically forceful acts.
