This catalogue documents Mark Manders' double exhibition Isolated Rooms at The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago and The Art Institute Of Chicago. The 12 major new works created for these shows continue Manders's long-term project, Self-Portrait as a Building, the conceptual vehicle for his unique combination of a distanced, metaphor-based idea of the self and a haunting poetic subjectivity.
The book comes in two parts. The slim paperback, Reference Book, contains illustrations of Manders' previous works, and essays by James Rondeau, curator of the exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, and Dieter Roelstraete, Belgian philosopher. The second hardcover book thoroughly documents the Chicago exhibitions and includes a checklist with several paragraphs on each artwork written by Manders and Marije Langelaar.
2005, 2 parts: hardcover 184 pages, paperback 56 pages, 161 b/w, 1 color illus.
